Large and stunning, this desk or workbox, or cigar chest is as beautiful inside as outside, and in such nice condition, you'll thrill to put it to use for your sewing, your cigars, your treasured letters and keepsakes, or ? The Napoleon III era box (c.1850-70) is the work of a fine French ebaniste (ebaniste) or cabinetry maker though it does not have an engraved lock plate like some. The quality is definitely there - look at the hardware, the quality of the boulle inlays. The working lock and original key gives you all sort of options for use, privacy. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, a few small evidences of use and age, but the inlays are all tightly intact and beautiful. Elegant wood grain. Original papered bottom in red shows some wear but remains intact. No chips and no cracks or even hairlines in the old hardwood. Gorgeous big box. Just in from France.
