Elegant antique French 18k gold on sterling silver "vermeil" 8pc teaspoon set with ornate pattern, interlaced monograms and tooled or embossed green leatherette travel style box, case or etui!  This type of antique French sterling silver travel set is far more than just a collection of teaspoons; it is a meticulously crafted artifact that tells a story of social status, personal hygiene, and the emerging culture of leisure in 19th-century France.  The spoons with the older pointed tip bowls, scrolling pattern and unique interlaced monogram that I can't quite decipher.  All bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver under the remnants of the gold plating (95% pure and so just above the .925 standard for "sterling" silver.  I somehow missed adding images of the hallmarks but will do so as soon as I'm able.

One of a few sets that we're adding this week so I'll go into a bit of the historical significance for the type and style.  Prior to the widespread availability of cutlery in public inns and restaurants, it was a common practice for travelers to carry their own eating utensils. For the wealthy, this was not a matter of a simple knife, fork, and spoon; it was a demonstration of fastidiousness and personal refinement. A private set of spoons ensured that one never had to use "common" or potentially unclean utensils.

The 19th century saw a rise in the affluent classes engaging in leisure activities like long-distance travel, picnicking in the countryside, and social gatherings outside the home. A travel set was an essential accessory for these occasions. A 6-piece teaspoon set, in particular, would be ideal for serving tea or coffee—a sign of sophisticated hospitality—during a "repas en plein air" (meal in the open air) or a visit to a friend's country estate.

A sterling silver travel set was a clear sign of wealth and prestige. It was a portable symbol of the owner's elevated social standing, demonstrating that they were accustomed to fine dining and were prepared for any social occasion, no matter the location. These sets were often given as wedding or coming-of-age gifts, serving as a family heirloom that combined practicality with heirloom quality.

Very good condition, age considered.  As you can see, the box is in great shape with both clasps intact though there is some age scuffs or marks as you would expect.  The spoons are all without flaws to note other than the visible wear or fading to the gold plating.  See images for all measurements.
