Found in France last trip, I had thought I'd locate a perfect wooden plinth for her and yet I haven't yet. I see these in all decors, some mounted on plexiglass plinth, others on wood or even a marble plinth, displayed on tabletops as the one-of-a-kind sculptures they are. She is not perfect, which is part of the charm. When she was hanging in some cathedral or other, she was an angel with unfurled wings. She kneels in flight and was likely a part of an ancient creche.  There is a 1/2" round hole where you see I've put a wooden dowel, which is likely how she was originally displayed. It's a hole as old as the figure, holds her in perfect balance. I haven't done much cleaning on this one, not wanting to remove any of the original polychrome. Most old carvings and sculptures 18th century and earlier were polychromed. Full measurements found on our detailed photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, an artisan carved 18th century or earlier creche figure - angel who has lost her wings. You will notice a few chips, a few woodworm holes, a few lost chips of her original polychromed surface. Superb and rare figure, larger than most. Will display beautifully in a home of modern to antique aesthetic.
