Oh, can't you just see this as the hinged door on a recessed wine cabinet! A cabinet for stemware in your wine cellar! That neoclassical carving is just remarkable! Figural, could be Bacchus, and the old working lock and key are still with it. All youâd need is a lock plate and someone to custom mount this gorgeous old thing. Heavy solid old forest growth walnut, it is spectacular! Or build a simpler cabinet for a master bathroom, perhaps. An exceptionally appealing panel, nicely preserved, we won't have this one long. Just in from France this week.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this one is free of chips and hairlines from drying old wood. No cracks to deal with, and that beautiful walnut is warm and satin-like. I've just cleaned it all, given it a wax and you see some shine on the photos that will disappear in a day or two. There is one tip of one carved leaf that needs to be reattached to the spot where it broke free. I have that piece and it will be remounted and a tiny nail recessed through it to be sure it never comes loose again. Itâs left of figureâs chin if you go looking for it. The carving is just remarkable. A true work of art. You'd pay 5 times this for it if you had it carved today. These old cabinet doors are so popular in customizing a beautiful home, or making a focal cabinet in your kitchen cabinetry. Easy projects to do! Make this one before I do. I have no more wall space!
