Beautifully carved pair of cabinetry or paneling plaques, each 22" x 8", carved by hand in a fine Neo-renaissance manner with deep bas relief griffon, one entire wing free. They are French, not Black Forest, but we don't have a category for wood carvings in general, so don't want to confuse you for finding these there. We love these hung as art, mounted on your existing cabinetry or built into it, used as doors for a wall or recessed cabinet - wonderful for recessed wine storage. You're sure to find the perfect spot, the perfect way to use and enjoy them. This pair date c.1850-70s, Napoleon III, Victorian era during which a revival of Renaissance themes and images was a height of architectural fashion. A bit Gothic.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. You can see the quality, and note that there are no chips. These are nicely finished from the backside, making them perfect to use as cabinet doors. You'll see a very light evidence around the outer perimeter indicating they might have been removed from mounts or frame. Each panel is 22" tall and 8" wide.
