Such a beautiful old French Empire box, c.1800, give or take 10 years. Unique with that ebonized wood treatment, a mat black, with the bright dore bronze appliqués, handle and paw feet. Sarcophogus shaped, it survives in quite beautiful condition, too. Large at 10 3/4" long and 8" wide, it has a slender profile at 4 3/4" and will delight in a modern interior to antique decor as a stunning accent. Full measurements are noted on the photos, too.
Very good condition for age and type. That interior is the old original silk. It has marks and color spots on it, but isn't deteriorated so much. Almost as if someone stored crayons inside at one time. Likely a sewing box, though there are no supports for the implements tray we'd expect to have once been there. Age line visible on top, a couple of small imperfections commensurate with age, corners are crisp, no chips - displays very well. The old original lock still works and it has its key. Very slight space/lift to lid front, but the lock does engage and work. Such a beautiful old thing!
