Not from Napoleon Bonaparte's Empire period, but from the revival period popular again during the reign of his nephew and France's last Emperor, Napoleon III, c. 1850-70, roughly. The style stayed popular through to about c.1915, so could be any time in that period. The stationery stand is a wonderful accent for desktop or bookshelf, and the mahogany wood is accented beautifully by the bright gold/brass alloy appliques of Psyche and Cupid, other Empire and neo-classical ornaments. Pens/pencils in front, then envelopes and note cards - can't you just see your own engraved note cards at the ready. These are increasingly hard to source. We're always pleased when we find one. This one is just in from Paris. We have some other similarly crafted desk top items you might want to also have along with this (sold separately), so be sure to look for those.

Very good condition for age and type. It is not perfect, however. You will note there is a small chip to the base wood at the front left corner, facing you in the images, and there is also a small piece of the ridge ormolu missing, top left shoulder. Shows some age throughout, but that's why we love antiques isn't it - the story, the age, the artistry and the patina of age. This one is 9.75" long, 8.25" tall, and 5.25" front to back. A nice larger size than most. No evidence of any wood worm.
