Antique French Napoleon III Era 8.25” “Vide Poche”, Jewelry or Trinket Dish, Vanity Style Beveled Mirror & Mary Gregory Style Raised Enamel Cherub or Putti Decoration
Wonderful antique French Napoleon III or Victorian era 8 1/4” tall “vide poche” (translated to empty pocket), a boudoir top jewelry or trinket dish in deep cobalt blue glass with Mary Gregory style winged cherub or putti, butterflies and flowers in raised white enamel and dressing table style backing with original deeply beveled glass mirror! A lovely piece, the hand painted enamel decoration inside the cobalt glass dish/bowl has exceptional detail and ‘depth’. Set in a gilt bronze wire style framework with flared reticulated edging to the dish, floral garland accenting the ball-footed base and a figural bust crowning the mirrored backing. Wonderful, don’t miss it.
Very good condition. There is a small chip to the inside rim of the glass dish, about at the 10 o’clock position, and some very small nips here and there but no larger chips, cracks or other damage. No loss to the white enamel decoration inside the bowl but there is some slight wear to the gold enamel accenting. Looking from the back of the piece, near the top of the mirror, you can see a horizontal section of brass that has been added to repair a separation of the original mirror mount and outer framing. Some loss of the silvering to the mirror, visible in the images, but no chips or cracks. See pictures for all measurements.
