A brilliant little portrait miniature, Napoleon to Napoleon III era (I think, possibly earlier - I'm not a military uniform expert), handsome young man with metallic thread epaulettes (also called shoulder boards) and bullion fringe decoration on his uniform. My quick research suggests these belonged to a Colonel, yet I also see same look for Leutenant. Red sash, buttons, all will help someone out there date him for us. I'm relatively certain he's Napoleon III, not Napoleonic era, but email me please, if you can pin it down by uniform. Thanks. Wonderful frame, bow top and ribbon repeated around the perimeter. A hanging loop on back, original slightly convex cover glass fully intact. A personal card with the imprint "Madame C. Lejalley" is the backing. It came that way and I have no idea if related or not.

Very good to excellent condition throughout. I see nothing to report by way of flaws. Very apparent age to frame, and this is a portrait of a living young soldier, French. Measurements noted on the photos. Painting unsigned, in gouache on natural wafer. Frame is a coppery metal, alloy of brass, not bronze.
