A delightful anatomical study in this late 1800s to earliest 1900s hand carved Black Forest bear. He has black metal or glass bead eyes and depicted in a rather playful position holding his rear foot with front paw. Seated on forest setting with the original round brass cup in place, bright and shiny enough to use at table for an open salt if you wish. It would have originally been a smoker's caddy or stand, for pipe or cigar, and the brass bowl an ashtray. No stains on it, brightly polished. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good condition. His lower jaw is a restoration, appears to be wood filler rather than carved wood. No other notable chips on this one at all unless perhaps a tiny nip to an ear top or base edges. Bear and stand have been carved from one large solid block of wood. Brass cup is original and un-stained, brightly polished. Fit for table!
