So beautiful, we expected to find "TAHAN" on that lock plate. It is blank, but the superb quality of this one makes us feel like it's an unsigned TAHAN. Just in from Paris, beautifully lined inside and ready to please you for generations to come, this large kingwood parquet veneered table box is a splendid display for desk top, table top, office or your box table. Displayed open with your collection of smalls within - would be gorgeous! The interior has, as noted, been completely redone in fresh fabric and trim and a cartouche of antique brass attached as an added adornment, center interior lid. This box is large! Measured from base, it is 13.25" x 9.5", and the legs extend beyond that and give it even larger presence.
Very good to excellent condition, knowing the interior has been re-lined professionally, and the cast metal edging and feet, escutcheon brought back to its original high lustre. Hinges are top quality, hold the lid open without pressure on the hinges (see photos). The box dates c.1850-70, during the reign of Louis-Napoleon, mid-Victorian era too. Shown with it in the final image are a lot of things on my work bench. You can gauge size and imagine your own jewelry or collection arranged within, can't you. Photos of all sides allow your full evaluation of how nicely the old kingwood veneers remain. Bottom shows the age, still with the original papered bottom. A gorgeous old thing with a very pleasing refreshment of the interior.
