Inexpensive, but SO sweet. These are early 1800s intaglio (engraving) prints that were hand colored and framed. Both images are of the ill-fated son of Napoleon Bonaparte and his 2nd wife, Marie Louis, Duchess of Parma (m. 1810–1821), who was chosen to give Napoleon the Royal heir Josephine could not. An unhappy marriage, and disastrous end to Napoleon, echoed through to his son, who died lonely and chronically ill of consumption at age 21, in care of his maternal grandmother, aHabsburg, and at Shönnbrun Palace, Vienna. A tour of the Shönnbrun seems to sum up his rejected small life in the display of his pet canary, stuffed and still in a raised cage. Such was the life he also lived. Known by "King of Rome" and also Napoleon II, he never reigned in any manner, other than as the only child of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The hand watercolored prints are not covered by glass. They are in very good condition for age and type, and could certainly benefit going forward by having round glass cut to protect them. The little frames are very old originals, and open from back with brass folds, as shown. Will be simple to open, add a glass (or not) for display. I think these would be wonderful in a child's room of an antique doll house, don't you? The pair stay together, and our price is for the pair. No, we will not separate them.
