I've always loved throw pillows with tapestry fragments. I'll be adding a lot of them from the warehouse this week - ones I've made over the decades as we changed decor in bedrooms, etc., and some I'd bought made up by some others. Long ago, I made up this little lumbar pillow from a salvaged needlework purse panel. A charming c.1840-50s purse side which had come from a very well-used antique purse whose silk had all gone to tatters so surrounding the old needlework with French passementerie on a complimenting fine brown velvet and a lush fringe seemed the best way to 'salvage' the past. Only the oval figural panel is antique. The pillow form inside is feather and down, and you can see in final images how it can look in mix-match with some of the others I'll be listing for sale separately. Look for more and group some. We're really just trying to clear space, and typically these little decorator pillows from antique fragments go fast, particularly at very low prices we're setting.
Very good to excellent condition on this one. No odors, no holes, the old panel shows age, but it really quite beautiful - great palette of colors. The velvet fabric is used front and back, and the needlework panel sewn onto the 12" square, which means the modern velvet gives it great support, not leaving it a vulnerable panel without backing. I used to pay a lot for velvets and trims - still do if/when I get the urge to redecorate. Now the panels are all much older, much pricier, and these need to find new homes.
