Fantastic & RARE antique Victorian era Swiss Black Forest hand carved 15.5” tall tobacco or smoker’s stand, a large tobacco jar on top with Fruits of the Hunt motif trophy style chamois & ibex or mountain goat mounds around the sides, ornate oak leaf accents, match & cheroot or cigarette holding base fixtures and remnants of a large eagle or bird of prey on top! WOW! Absolutely magnificent, even with the missing eagle on top and few missing horns or ears. Beautifully carved with exceptionally skilled detail throughout. We've had a few of these large tobacco jar or smoker's stand pieces in the past but I believe this is the first with the miniature trophy mounts, aren'™t they superb! Wonderfully sculpted and then finished off with large two-toned glass eyes, fabulous realism! Huge talons still clutching the top of the lid. A portion of the tail feathers also are all that remain of what must have been a massive eagle or falcon figure perched on top. Oh to have that intact. I thought of having our carver whittle down the remnants but Susan simply loves the large talons and insisted that they remain. Definitely the best decision in retrospect. A truly remarkable piece, don’t miss it!

Very good condition. There are some visible worm/bug holes in the base foliage and here & there in the jar but nothing active. As noted above, there are a few horns, horn tips, ears and/or ear tips that have been chipped from the trophy mount figures and, of course, the eagle missing from the top. Otherwise fabulous, just as you see it in the images. See pictures for all measurements.
