Delightful antique Victorian to Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved match or toothpick holder in the form of a wheat or grain bushel on an attached base tray with ornate basket weave styling and grapes or berries & foliage on the vine! A relatively mundane use I guess but we all do need or use matches at the hearth or perhaps toothpicks in the kitchen and I can't think of a better receptacle that this little treasure. The oval base tray is 7.5" x 5.5" so it's not all that small and the foliate decoration is as lovely as can be. Don't miss it!
Very good to excellent condition. It looks like there would have been small pierced "handles" at the sides, formed from those slightly thicker vines or branch portions but they've been chipped or broken off over the years. A few tiny nips elsewhere but no larger chips, cracks or warping to note. See pictures for all measurements.
