Aren't these just gorgeous! The colors are vibrant and the glass beads are in superb shape. A pair of linen canvases worked entirely in glass beads, a Victorian set made made up into face screens, and remarkably well preserved and clean - heavy silk satin backings of slightly different colors. Someone has shortened the typically longer length of the stands, and those lovely old porcelain or pottery stands have a couple of chips but display very nicely anyway. If you aren't as thrilled by the mantel or tabletop screens, you may definitely want to incorporate the beadwork shield and use as focal centers for a pair of opulent down-filled velvet or silk (and beadwork) throw pillows. You know the type, all elegantly fringed. These are from my private stash.
Very good to excellent condition, canvas is supple, the beadwork is not missing a single bead. This is done one bead/stitch at a time in the manner of needlepoint, and these represent weeks of hand work by some lovely Victorian woman or girl. Theyâve been in service as screens, but could be separated and worked into sewing project for throw pillows, I believe. I am selling them as you see them. The old glass bead screens are heavy, lovely. This pair are 9.75" at longest point, and are 7" wide (the shield). In my final photo, you see a pair that were never made up. The screens were provided to guests, either in stands or with handles, and used to protect the face from the direct heat of a roaring fire when visiting. A lovely traditional Victorian or Napoleon III era accoutrements for any well-appointed home, they're mostly decorative now. There are maker marks on the porcelain/pottery bases, but also a couple of chips. Suitable to display as shown, however. Lovely colors, clean! No odor.
