Isn’t this one great! An antique Victorian to early Edwardian era 10” x 6.5” alligator documents or cigar case, possibly paper currency etui with English hallmarked sterling silver clasp and royal crown topped monogram! The silversmith marks may be for George Henry James & Co., circa early 1900s. To be completely honest, I’m baffled by the original purpose of this one (forgive the pun). The sides do actually have baffles so the thickness can expand from the collapsed 1 3/4” to roughly 3”. Both exterior and interior on this one are exceptional, as if never used. Opened up, the inside has textured black leather interior consisting of folding flaps and expanding pockets, eight in all. Opulent to say the least. Use it, display it, whatever you decide just don’t miss it.
Very good to excellent condition. As you can see, inside and out are pristine. Clasps bear London sterling silver hallmarks but I haven’t found the date letter. Tarnish to the silver but polished enough to see the marks. See pictures for all measurements.
