A fine Victorian era Italian micro mosaic plaque with tiny sand sized glass tesserae, likely c.1840-50s, of Roman Ruins. The plaque is a basin of slate or black marble or glass, beveled as typical on these, and this one is mounted in 14k gold - a brooch. A Grand Tour souvenir made into lovely jewelry. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the gold has been acid-tested at 14k, and is more likely 15k, for which I do not have acid. At least 14k, it has had a restoration on back with a silver brooch pin. It might have once been part of a necklace or bracelet. The brooch pin is not original. I find no hairlines, no cracks, a very nice old mosaic, a very tiny few ridge roughnesses to be felt with a fingertip more than seen with the eye.
