Spectacular and large sofa or bed pillows, approximately 24" square and in thrilling colors. Old wode dyes (historically significant), the panels are either Flemish verdure, c. 1600s or possibly French tapestry fragments from some fabulous huge antique wall tapestry, same period. Clean, fresh, super-long handmade fringe on each side (not top or bottom), they are backed in creamy compliments of velvet fabric, very slightly different (see images) from one another. Just in from Europe, I have put in new mostly down, some feather super-squishy pillow forms, crease top at will. Lots of photos, you can see how large they are. They're squishy-lovely and actually do make wonderful backrest you can sink into a bit, so do actually work for sofa lounging, as well. There is a very old 19th century woven passementerie trim band (see images). The tapestry panels are lined so they don't take the pressure of motion. These are to be used and loved, I think, and not only on display. Hurry and buy them before I decide they're meant to be in my homes.
Very good to excellent for age and type, the old tapestries have a few open wove spots you might wish to take a needle and thread to (see images toward the end of spread), but for the most part they are just superb. Clean, no odors, new pillow form fills inside (24" x 24" down with some feather to sustain form). There is one noted flaw on that lush interesting fringe, as it is missing about 4" strip along side of one of the pillows. Turned so it's at bottom, you're not going to even notice it as the rest of the fringe flows right over it. I've shown a detail pic of it for your review. That fringe is hand-tied, sort of a macrame with thin string, very interesting and something I have not seen used to date. Mmmmm. . . just look at those colors! Amazing and going on 500 years, spectacular designer pillows for the most richly appointed homes.
