A superb old pair of kiln-fired enamel barrels on this lovely large binocular or opera glass pair, and not a bit of damage to either barrel. The set is beautiful and functional as you see them, but they are not perfect. The eyepieces (less than 5% of the weight of this antique set of opera glasses) have the typical age/shrinkage cracks on them. The adjustment knob is not opening up the pair of glasses to expanded length, and we're unsure if they're just stuck or what, but they're clear and fine to view through and use. There is a flashing chip on the outer rim of one of the largest lenses, but again, in use it is not causing any distortion and you cannot even see it in use. But these flaws are there and we've taken them into consideration in setting our price.
Good to very good condition for age and type, the enamel barrel covers are excellent on this set, and have no chips or cracks, no hairlines. There was one small flaw but our professional enamelist has made it impossible to find now. The extra large size of this set is part of its exceptional appeal. End lenses are 2" in diameter and the eyepiece lenses are 1.5" diameter. Some small dent on brass framework at the large bottom rounds, visible in our images. The draw adjustment is not opening up the glasses, but the view is clear and crisp and magnifies your view as it is. Whether for display or use, this is a stunning set.
