The pair of wonderful oil paintings shown here depict life in 1700s France, and you see the costume, streets and even a sedan chair in them. Charming and a wonderful memento of the history and aesthetic that seems to live on in layers in Paris even today. I brought the pair home with me from Paris ages ago. They’re each painted on board, so minimal loss to the oil paintings, no holes or issues of canvas. The frames are wonderful, though touched up here or there and showing age. Each one is intimate, 13.5" x 11" and 2" in depth, so nice for wall, shelf display. Perfect along bookshelves. Signed « A. Very » on one and just initialed on the mate, which is by the same artist of course.

Very good condition for age and type. You can see that the frames have age, are slightly rough here or there. The paintings are on board, and suffer little loss, no issues like with canvas paintings, no need of stretching nor patch. You can enjoy the brush strokes, the feel and palette of the artist’s depiction of life in Paris in the 1700s. I particularly love that there is a sedan chair, and they evoke Marie-Antoinette and later French Revolution.  Sold as a pair only.  Perspective in the architectural scene is exquisitely mastered, too.
