Rare to find, very nicely preserved Napoleonic era sewing box, mother of pearl sewing tools all inside but the bodkin (needle), and a gold-capped perfume bottle, as well. The red cordovan leather-clad wood box is in sarcophagus form, and trimmed out in cut steel which is entirely intact. Hinged handle is, also, and the same for working lock and original key. A surprise when opened, the old original mirror is unbroken, and the hand-sewn silk pad is also intact and nicely preserved with its unique ruffled edge. A lift-out tray reveals the silk lined compartment beneath to be clean and without deterioration. And the tools! As you can see, there are scissors, needle case, thimble, 2 original silk winder snowflakes, the stiletto and a perfume bottle that still has its stopper. A pin cushion and fitted interior over 200 years old remains beautiful for display! Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The box shows a darkened spot or two on sides but the top is without any detractions and is beautifully trimmed in cut steel which go with the steel handle and bun feet. I can point out a couple of imperfections among the sewing tools inside: tip of scissors blunted, though sharp and fully functional; cap of perfume bottle has a split, but the stopper is still inside, no breaks. The 18k gold Palais Royal medallion which is intact on scissors, thimble and needle case has gone missing from the stiletto, so it is turned with the plain side up. Oh, and its tip is slightly bent, needs a very gentle pliers to straighten it, which I missed doing ahead of photos. Lastly, the needle case seems stuck and doesn't want to come open. I am not into forcing these old bits, so consider it is just not going to open but it is really beautiful. Not a bit of loss on the mother of pearl parts
