Very rare antique Victorian era Italian tooled leather 17.5" x 12 5/8" book shaped box, a document, artist's sketch or papers portfolio with brass accents & pietra dura plaque with bird, grapes & foliage! The only of its sort that we've ever come across in our 25+ years in the business, very unique! In the form of a large leather bound book, thick brown leather with tooled nearly gothic style patterns, brass accents and clasps. Very good condition. Some restoration, we had the interior re-lined with a tan or cream colored moire style fabric and the oil paper along the leaf" edges is a later addition/restoration. Two of the small brass accents or appliqués have small losses but the clasps are entirely intact and work just fine. Some surface blemishes to the leather and slight ding's to corners and binding edges but otherwise gorgeous, just as you see in the images. All measurements are noted on the pictures.
