A spectacular and overly large pair of hand carved and artist signed Black Forest game carvings, these would have once been holders or stands for epergne (flute in glass to hold flowers). A pair of long tailed pheasants carved on each, elegant anatomical studies and very well preserved for the old carved figures. This is the size that are fabulous when made into lamp bases. I have a pair in my other home and love them with their silk shades. Very simple, really, to convert. A long drill carefully put through the center tall post and a lamp kit. We also use these as candlesticks, for which they are just perfect as they are. A sturdy base on this pair, The base is 8" wide and 5" depth, sort of 3/4 of an oval in form. Hunt theme.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the 4 carved pheasants are really something special on this set. Those long slender tail feathers, the anatomical rendering of feathers in Master's carving. I've shown the signature and notations on the base. You might recognize the Master carver. A nod to the tips of some of those carved stems, which is so very normal in these, and a couple of pointy beaks are slightly nipped. Full measurements noted.
