Every home needs at least one pair of dramatic and thrilling shelves, don't you agree? Whether you top them with bronze statues, perfume bottle collection, family photos in beautiful frames, or splendid antique plates or porcelain, they just seem the perfect necessity. This is one such pair! Entirely hand carved, mid-1800s pair with large 14" x 6.5" platforms and carved supports that are beautiful from front or side view. Not the fruit at bottom, just below the animal paw on that cabriole front carved support - aren't they just perfect! I'm looking for a place to use them here at home. Full measurements noted on the photos. Just in from France, wood cleaned and lightly waxed, ready for use.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. There are no cracks, no chips, no losses to the upside down finial/drop at sides, and the carving is so elegant, the grain and stain of the old wood so warm. All I can see to note on them is that one has already had the brackets on back replaced and the other needs it done (they both seem broken off). I'll be looking for some replacements unless you buy them super-quickly, which means you'll need to replace those. Very simple task, truly. Top surface of the shelves show some age. That beveled edge with its carved drama takes the eye upward and across, doesn't it? I love these!
