In France, title and legacy is everything, and you cannot have anything commissioned with a crown unless you are a titled Royal. So, while we do not know for whom this c.1890-1920 compact was created, we do know it was for Royalty. Perhaps a gift, it has really no evidence of having ever been used. No loss or damage but one tiny bug bite (see our images) along a side panel of the top cover. A multi-compartment minaudière or compact.
Very good to excellent throughout, with a single bug bite. It even retains a powder sieve. Missing only a powder puff. Large for a compact, and that inlaid crown tests 18k gold. No warp, and an elegant piece of artisan's work throughout.
