A charming example of the Country French kitchen staple, 'boite a' sels', or salt box. It is in from France. It’s carved in the French Country aesthetic, and if pressed to date it closely, I’d say it’s about 100 years old now, c.1920s. About every 100 years, things in France become popular again, and the earlier ones similarly carved mostly date late 1700s to early 1800s. Those are priced awfully high now, so usually people like the ‘vintage’ ones for decorating. The feel but not the very high cost. An early one will bring closer to $2500 and up, depending on details. One could certain raise this one on either round or lathe-turned cabinet drawer pulls stained to match, by the way, since it's not the 18th century ones - a little more height and detail would be fun.
Very good condition for age and type, this one has a finished and stained back, so works nicely on my kitchen table (as shown) where some angles of view are from backside. A little scratch or two, a chip on the bottom edge, as even this one is about 100 years old. Drawer bottom and hinged bin top. Full measurements noted on the photos.
