I admit I am not good with dog breeds, but this little guy is fluffy and darling. One paw on a hollowed out log, which is actually a pen holder, and he's hinged at neck to open and reveal a pressed glass inkwell inside. He's c.1880-1910 or so, lifelike glass eyes. Full measurements noted on the photos, he's a full 5" tall, closed.
Very good condition for age and type, I can point out to you that there is a chip bottom right to the hollowed log. I have marked it on photos for your review. No other chips or cracks. When you open to reveal the ink pot, you'll see that the interior has some ink staining. That does not show on the outside of the carving. The pressed glass ink pot that came with it when we found it in France is slightly small for the fitting so I'm certain it is not the old original, but it is of same age.
