From the appearance of his age, this is a young man who was born and grew up during the Napoleonic Empire's expansion and demise. The painting dates c.1820-30, near the end of the restoration of return of the Bourbon Kings (spanning between the Hundred Days War in 1814 to the July Revolution in 1830). In a face just 3/4" from chin to hairline is a distinguished and rather proud looking young man with beautiful clear and confrontational blue eyes - son of wealth and position, no doubt. Full measurements are noted on our photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type - 200 years ago this painting was created. I have no identification, and I see no signature on the painting, but it's beautifully crafted by the artist. Never separated from its original composite frame and protected beneath a flat cover glass, which might possibly be a replacement - most of these originally had convex cover glass. Very nicely preserved. Yes, found in France.
