A stunning South Staffordshire enamel etui circa 1770-1780, Battersea or Bilston 10 cm long and well preserved. Raised gold enamel decoration and 5 figural cartouche against a very pleasing pale yellow body color. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, about 250 years old now. Kiln-fired enamels have a fragility to them, suffer chips and regularly hairlines or cracks, both from mishap and from age. Our large photos show you ever detail for your inspection. Found in France, but I feel quite sure this one is English in origin. If it ever had a fitting inside to hold an array of traveler's tools for vanity and sewing, nothing remains of it now. Begs an oval flask or perfume bottle, or just to be loved as it is.
