Superb antique French travel vanity bag, satchel or “trousse d’voyage”in jet black Louis Vuitton Epi style leather, holding several gorgeous French sterling silver & intaglio etched perfume or cologne bottles & jars and marked by the Parisian maker “Au Depart, 29 Avenue de L’Opera, Paris”! As elegant as can be. Yes, the interior is missing quite a few original contents, as evidenced by the empty fittings but it does still have nine French hallmarked sterling silver bottles and jars, a leather clad travel inkwell and match safe/box with hinges striker panel. All pieces as pristine as can be except for one round jar that had pretty bad breakage but was glued back together for display purpose only. Au Depart was a prominent maker of trunks and travel cases, founded in 1834 and ranked among the the most notable in similar wares including Louis Vuitton, Goyard & Moynat. A fabulous piece, don’t miss it!
Very good to Excellent condition. As noted, there are several original contents missing. I’ve shown enlarged photos of all that remains, along with the inside and outside of the case. There is some visible surface cracking on the outside where the lid folds are but and some fading to the black in some areas but, as you can see, the case is in great shape. Working lock/clasp with working old skeleton key. See pictures for all measurements.
