Beautiful PAIR of antique late 18th to early 19th century silk on silk embroidery tapestries with black glass mats, gilt wood frames and both in wonderful condition! Outer frame measurement on each: 15.75" x 13.5" and 1.75" deep and the visible portion of the embroideries (inside black mat) is 10 5/8" x 8 3/8". Silk embroidery gilded wood frames, all original on both, including cover glass. A fabulous 1700s to earliest 1800s hand embroidered tapestry or sampler pair, rare to find them together. Each scene is so pleasing, one could possibly consider them Biblical with the sheep or lamb figures. Definitely pastoral views and, with the pair of man & woman, romantic for sure. The chenille work is fabulous!
Very good to excellent condition, age & materials considered. Some chipping to the gold/gilding on the frames as seen in the images. There are a few tears to one, right around the man's head area. Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
