Late 1700s European portrait miniature, found in France and likely French or at least French school, I do not find a signature but the portrait is wonderful. Powdered hair, likely a pony tail pulled to nape of neck and held with a large black bow (in this era), though we can't see that. The locket type frame on this one is exceptional, and the original plaited hair art remains in back. Original flat cover glass protecting both so the piece is in excellent condition, these 250 years later. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout. No loss or damage to the painting, gouache on thin wafer, or to the plaited hair art. This would have been a token of love, perhaps of mourning. Often the plaited hair has been removed from these over the centuries. The locket is hinged, is .800/1000 silver with 18k gold layer (vermeil) though I think the bale might well be 18k solid. Hung, or worn on a chain or black ribbon, it's definitely been treasured now for centuries.
