Delightful large antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved 17" tall epergne stand with thick wheel cut glass flute or vase insert and wonderful hunt themed chamois or mountain goat figure under overhanging foliage! A quintessential work of the famed artisans of the Black Forest region, likely the Swiss Alps area. This is a single, likely would have once been half of a pair but a truly wonderful decorative accent all by itself. We put these to use as candle holders sometimes or to make fabulous lamp bases but this one has that fabulous thick, wheel cut glass or crystal flute so we'd want to use it just as it is (though adding that lighting hardware isn't really that difficult). A mantel full of them makes a fabulous collection. Yes, for tabletop, too. Whether hunting lodge, cabin, French Country or English manor decor, they're always perfect accents. We'd date this one c.1890-1920.
Very good condition for age and type. This one is particularly nice, hardly any loss to the figure up front and just the outer ear & horn tip gone and a few chips to the foliage overhead. Also a few age or drying cracks visible extending inward on the base. Measurements are noted on the photos, it's 17" in total height.
