The back-painted glass souvenirs (eglomise) that remain from the estates of Grand Tour travelers have always been a fascination for me, traveler that I am. Most came from France (even most of English landmarks), and typically the vast majority of them are of French views, architectural and cultural stops. This bright and early 1800s scene is quite unique among them, being that it is an onion dome church as souvenir landscape, and while that doesn't definitely say Russia, it certainly appears to be. St. Petersburg, in particular, was a city closely aligned with Paris and all things French, so it's not entirely surprising to find a Russian painting. Charming little ring or jewelry tray, about 3" x 3 1/4" oval plus the extension of the handles to a length of 4 1/4", and a height of 2 1/4", it's of a particularly brilliant gold finish wire, perhaps a gold plating. Watch holder, trinket or "vide poche" (literally: empty pocket) for jewelry and coins to rest overnight.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, very bright gold, perhaps plated. Definitely old, and a unique and unusual Russian souvenir scene. I see nothing to report as a flaw.
