Certainly an argument to be made that it might be Josephine, herself, This beautiful women is perfectly presented and preserved under convex cover glass in a lathe-turned case which has the look but not the depth of an old snuff box. She wears fine Napoleon era 1st Empire jewelry, a tiara of gold and cut beads of natural red coral, a matching necklace, Gold chain with her gold watch tucked into her Empire belt, the modest lade bodice covering slightly older women wore. If it is not Josephine, about the time Napoleon left her for a 2nd wife who could possibly bear him children - the days of Malmaison, it is certainly someone who looked like her, and who had station enough for such a fine portrait. This one is signed, "Zendar", and artist dated 1818, even there putting Josephine at Malmaison after Napoleon's fall. I have not tried to remove her from the very tight mount, so photos show some glare, and perhaps within the back one would find her ID confirmed. Measurements in full are on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, no breaks, no chips, nothing to report but a rather tight fit to the 2 halves of the elegant wooden case. Elegant and a stunning miniature, one might learn more by researching the artist, comparing to later paintings showing Josephine at this time. Known to have bad teeth, she was rarely ever shown without her lips closed tightly.
