Exceptional c. 1850s Papier Mache serpentine and slanted form stationery box, casket, beautifully decorated with mother of pearl inlays and overall hand painted decorative finish. Strong hinges open to reveal perfectly preserved paper-covered dividers for paper, notes, envelopes. One of the best preserved I've ever found in over 3 decades. Very good to excellent condition, no breaks or cracks. Elaborate serpentine outer form and arching slanted top - all beautifully decorated and inlaid with mother of pearl. Exceptional for its age! While there is a lock, we do not have a working key with this one at listing time.
