Luxurient down-filled and French passementerie fringed velvet or silk decorator sofa or throw pillow incorporating antique needlework and tapestry fragments - you know the type and the look, and the high prices. Here's a wonderful one from my 4 decades collections, ready for you to do a little restoration and then make up your own pillow. This panel has a wide folded back linen canvas, allowing you to work a needlepoint border should you wish to expand its 28 1/2" x 26" size. Fabulous French patterning and colorful palette, the very center cartouche with a pair of geese. There are some open stitches in that center cartouche which will need a slight restoration. Otherwise, this is a strong large and supple panel which will be very easy to make up into a gorgeous large throw pillow for your home. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, a large wool and silk panel worked entirely by hand, needlepoint and petitpoint. There are, as noted and shown in our photos, a few small spots primarily in hat round center cartouche which will need light restoration - easily done. Dates late 1700s to early 1800s, and since it wasn't ever used, there is little, if any, fading to the old yarns (see photos of back). The panel is slightly off-square. This is something that occurs when the needlepoint embroiderer pulls the yarn stitch just a little too much, and is typical of a young person learning needlepoint. You can cross-pull and 'straighten' it more to the square. Imagine it with lush gorgeous fringe, or French passementerie tassels and a piped edging, velvet backing and down-filled pillow form. Easy project!
