One of my favorites, this handsome officer in his dress uniform, the French Legion of Honor on his breast. Napoleonic Era Military. One of Napoleon's best, we have no identification for this sitter, and only an initial to reference his artist, but the painting is beyond superb! Larger than most, as well, you can see the pride in his face and demeanor. Housed in a very special early 19th century dore bronze French frame with a kiln-fired enamel border and elaborate bow top, easel stand or hanging loop, I predict he will become your favorite, too. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. I've taken out the painting (gouache on thin wafer, backed still in paper so I can't show the backside), and find it without damage. A very slight warp to it, bottom center, which I tried to capture in a photo but it's not enough to show. It flattens perfectly beneath the original convex cover glass and within the exquisite old frame. A real show-stopper, this one.
