One of my favorite types of antique frame, I use these at home for our big family photos. This one, though, has a Georgian portrait miniature inside, and deserves to stay just as it is. Gorgeous antique Victorian or Napoleon III era 12.5" shadow box style picture frame with stunning gilt gesso on wood inner framing on a maroon velvet mat, glass facade and original easel stand back! Isn't that inner gilded framing just exquisite! Highly ornate rocaille at the corners and an array of detailed flowers & foliate scrolls. Set against a deep dark red or burgundy velvet mat, the rich gold really stands out beautifully. The outer frame appears to be in mahogany and the glass appears original though who really knows after all of these years (I see no waviness or tiny air bubbles which would have been an obvious sign). Wood front to frame could use a tiny touch-up with wood stain pen, and I will do that ahead of sending this one out. These frames are very hard to find, by the way. In decades, I've only added about 7 or 8 to my own family collection. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good condition. The inner gilded frame is near-pristine, kept safe under the glass and the velvet mat shows only a very little sign of age. The back is wood and upon it written a name. She appears to be done in pencil, watercolor on paper but I have not taken her out of frame to inspect, nor to look for more info or signature on back or edge. A screw or two missing from the back but that just makes it easier to get in for placement of your photo or portrait. See pictures for all measurements.
