Such a beautiful young child, a girl (hair parted in center), blond and blue eyed and dating to c.1835, Louis Philippe era - the off-shoulder baby gown helping us to date her, as does the solid cast bronze bow top frame. She is well protected under a flat cover glass, and while we have no artist signature and no identification, we do know the painting is French. Could she be a British child, or lighter coloring German child? Yes, but the painting was completed and framed in France, and I found her thus in France, as well. An early Grand Tour? A child of expats? Or simply a beautiful blond French girl?
Very good to excellent condition throughout. I would guess that the cover glass might not be original, since most of these old ones would have had the slightly convex cover glass and this one is flat, a rough-cut oval. The wafer/painting is without flaw, and same for the heavy bronze frame. Measurements are noted on our photos.
