Bottle curls and an elaborate lace bonnet framing her pretty face, this matron has the rare bit of a smile which is almost translating to a smirk. I think she did not wish to have her portrait painted. Soulful eyes, I think her artist was very adept and yet she is unsigned. Elaborate and large gold jewelry adorns her. The painting is quite exquisite, and her face is only 7/8", chin to hairline. Those with interest in fashion, jewelry, will find her exquisitely appealing. The wafer is large on this one, nearly 3 1/2" in diameter, and set into a large wooden frame, French standard wood, which is nearly 6" in diameter. Accurate measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, no damage to report. A superb and well-treasured painting for 200 or so years of age, give or take 10 years. Sealed from the back, I did not take her out of her mount to look for a signature on the rim, out of view when in her bright mount, or to look for possible identifications within. Convex cover glass is also pristine for age. A truly fabulous miniature - these slightly larger ones are so wonderful for Bru and antique doll's display homes, as you know.
