Fabulous antique French Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era 9 1/8" desk or jewelry box or casket with ornate brass, natural shell & mother of pearl boulle inlay and finished ribboned maple & embossed red velvet interior!  A beautiful smaller treasure chest here.  Just in from France and the condition and visual appeal are far better than I had expected.  The undulating carved edging usually dates these more to the Louis Philippe era though they do somewhat blend into Napoleon III pieces.  The inlay is simply stunning and, though I can't quite be certain, it appears that the center cartouche is engraved with an "S.T." monogram.  The inside of this one perfect for love notes perhaps, treasured photos or letters from loved ones.  The lid lining is also lovely and has very faint marks or impressions that lead me to believe that it once held a sterling silver table setting for one or a set or hors d'oeuvre serving pieces originally.  Wonderful nonetheless!

Very good to excellent condition.  The only flaw I can see is that it's missing what it once held :).  The base is lined in a lighter wood, likely maple, and has only faint signs that there were fittings to hold the flatware or serving pieces.  Push-button clasp works just great.  See pictures for measurements.
