There's a dated backing which says 1744, and which I do not think has anything to do with this portrait. If it did, the writing would be centered and readable in the mounting. I do think this is a portrait after or "après" an earlier work from the Georgian (England) or Louis XVI (France) era, a copy of a painting or person popular with the Grand Tour public. Big soulful eyes on this beautiful young woman. It is possible it's an original from 1700s, but I will cover myself and say as late as mid-1800s. Very adept artist, and I wish a signature was evident. With a 100 year range between her life and the latest this painting may have been done, it's still 170 or more years old. In the era, it would have been mooted into a wooden frame. These have often been removed from the wooden frame owing to personal taste, many preferring just the mounting mat as a frame. This one is rather large for a miniature, at 3 1/2" diameter. Pale peachy pinks - a gorgeous palette. I found her in France.
Very good to excellent condition without any hairlines, warp, you can see there is a slight area to upper right rim which is likely original to the painting, perhaps a drop of water as it was painted. It is nearly fully obscured by the brass frame mount. Protected under original convex cover glass. Measurements noted on the photos.
