The artist's signature appears on this beautiful portrait, and a date of 1921, so she'll be antique by next year. Has a timeless beauty to her, and would be elegant in a mid-century modern home, as well. We have no information on whom this elegant woman might have been, just her image. Artist signature is noted in our photos, "J. Montmessin - '21", lower right corner. One might have luck researching this fine portraitist. Painting is ours from France some years ago. She's stylish enough to be a modern lady you'd see in the Louvre today, isn't she.
Very good to excellent condition, her age showing mostly from the backside where you can see the very old stretcher for the linen canvas upon which she is painted. Fabulous palette, soothing colors, and eyes that will draw you to her time and again. Her jewelry is simple, elegant, as well. The painting and frame are each in lovely condition, and while there is evidence of one restoration (white patch showing on backside), from the painting side it is truly well done and doesn't draw the eye. The outer frame is 29" x 25", other measurements noted on our photos.
