A charming oil painting on board panel, signed Lucia Brémond, dated 1917 by the artist. Ready to frame or hang or shelf-display as she is. A beautiful young woman in the height of fashion for her era, casual pose on a green overstuffed chair. The Impressionist feel and look of the painting is very pleasing, and it has the feel of having been perhaps a quick Grand Tour portrait by a very talented artist. Dated 1917, during WW1. It is just in from France recently.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, has the quick sketch feel of a fine artist's sketch. Just look at the brushstrokes, the few making the image rich and playful, at once. There is a small warp to the board, but it would frame flat. Not very thick, maybe 3/16th or so. But a board is more stable than a canvas and she's survived her 104 years very well, indeed. Board is 13 3/4" x 10 1/2", ready to frame or display. I see no loss of paint. Isn't her face just gorgeous, and so freely painted in a few strokes, the Impressionist coming through.
