Completely original, this early to mid Victorian era (early Napoleon III) presentation box is entirely made in ivory, to house the elegant pendant and brooch in their fittings within. The large carved pendant is a cross laden with fruit and harvest sheaves of grain, tied in a bow. The brooch is a Neo-classical urn filled with flowers. Each piece is in remarkable condition and comprises a museum quality rare set. A gift, perhaps at a confirmation, marriage, or in mourning, there is a gold monogram up top on the box, "C M C". The working lock no longer has a key with it. Measurements are noted on the photos, but that box is nearly 6" long, nearly 3" wide and almost 2" tall, closed. These are upsized pieces. The pendant is almost 4" long - impressive in size and in detail.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The 2 jewelry pieces have no loss or damage, well protected within their original presentation box. The box has a very old and repaired break across the front of the lid, visible in our photos for your review. Solid, and fine at the hinges which is normally a weak spot. My thought is that the box was locked without any key, and someone had to break it to get it open, then had it professionally repaired there. Beautiful artisan's work throughout. I am unsure if it is Dieppe for certain, but it seems like it. If not, possibly Flemish or German artistry. In my own collection for decades, never worn but just displayed.
