Some use these for open salts, some collect as thimble holders, or ring trays. Of course they were originally sold from the boutiques flanking the garden promenade of the old Palais Royal, and were delightful whimsies, ranging from small working carriages like this one, to large mechanical "egg" sets holding full sewing sets or perfumes (see our last photo). And they remain today as popular and delightful as they were in the early to mid-1800s.
Very good to excellent condition, Two 3-dimensional gilt alloy brass goats on this one, in harness and pulling a little mother of pearl shell with working wheels, all in fine order. I can find a single tiny flaw - marked on our photos with an x, it is a 1mm super-tiny roughness on the upper rim, could certainly be filed out with a Dremel and a moment's time. Rick will do that ahead of sending out, but we wanted to show you how beautifully it has survived now some 200 years, give or take 10. Measurements noted on the photos. High pearlescent color as you can see. Really a lovely petit treasure!
