I have collected antique tapestry and panels, fragments for decades. I'm beginning to disburse that collection, and this pair of fabulous made up decorator pillows are some of my favorites. The 2 c.1600s French or Flemish woven 'verdure' panels have gorgeous colors. Typical greens/blues and cream, they're set into a fine compliment silk fabric with velveted backing, and a lush 4" of vintage French trim. The narrower trim outlining the 2 woven panels is antique French passementerie. They are 20" x 13" and have 4" of opulent fringe. They come from a pet-free and non-smoking home, having been made up decades ago and on display.
Very good condition for age and type, the old woven panels are fragments from some ancient wall hanging tapestry, salvaged from palace or chateau. These old and huge tapestries sometimes took years/decades to craft, and are in silk and wool yarns. The dyes were natural, and these 'verdure' (greenery) panels have long been decorator favorites. The fragments often have a little restoration or some stitches to solidify aging warp (the stringing into which the wool yarns are woven). I've shown you images of each so you can see the work. And full measurements are also noted on our photos. You are buying the pair, 2 pillows.
