Antique 18th century French hand carved ivory Christ on cross, crucifix - from my lifelong personal collections. The figure is 6 1/2" from toes to top of head, 5" across from fingertip to fingertip. The ebonized wood cross, beveled at edges, is 15" tall. Note that the nails are no longer with this one, so it is mounted in some other way. I've photographed it with its original cross, but it is not attached and will come out to you as 2 separate pieces so you can decide your preference for mounting the corpus to the cross. In most of these old ones, the feet are shown overlapped and a single nail through both. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I have long collected these, the elegant sculpture carved figure, all the muscles tight and anatomically elegant - Christ in the throes of agony and suffering. His eyes open and pleading as he looks up to the heaven above. Note that the fingers and toes are in very good condition for age and type, only tips of a couple fingers chipped, but nearly whole. You can see there is some loss to the crown of thorns. I've visited museum collections of The Vatican and also Notre Dame, Paris many times, and my collection of these sculptures is as fine as many represented in those collections.
